Irish Setters are one of the most loyal dog breeds and they really enjoy being among people. It is recommended that you start training them very early, because it's known that this breed is full of energy and excitement. They can easily get bad habits if they are being left on their own. So you'll need a lot of space for them to run around and a lot of time to play with them.
Some important steps for raising your Irish Setter
- Give your puppy high quality food. It should contain at least 30% of protein, 20% of carbohydrates and at least 4% of fiber.
- Your Irish Setter puppy should eat at least two or three small meals a day, rather than one big one, because this breed is inclined towards flatulence.
- You should start training them very early because they quickly become ebullient if you don't remind them constantly how they should behave. But overall Irish Setters are very affectionate and playful toward other dogs and children.
- They should be trained with love and patience.
- Take your Irish Setter on a walk at least two times a day, because they are full of energy and need a lot of time to exercise.
- They quickly become bored and distracted so learn how to keep them entertained.
- Be aware that they are prone to some diseases like hip problems, epilepsy, skin allergies, flatulence and eye problems.
- Daily brush their hair to avoid knots.
